Also known as gandul, Congo pea, no-eye-pea, red gram, dhal, toor, Gunds pea and alverja.

A staple food crop with many purposes- it feeds the soil, people, chickens and bees. The pigeon pea is easy to grow and has great amounts of protein, similar to lentils and beans. It also produces flowers so pollinators can retrieve some energy as well. Leaves, flowers, seed pods and seed all make nutritious animal fodder, and if it couldn't get any better it's root nodules will also feed your soil nitrogen. The flavorful seeds are eaten both as fresh shell beans and as dry beans.
